Use of Stimulus Funds

Photo by wstera2The best explanation I’ve found for why the stimulus didn’t work is this graph from the GAO analysis of the stimulus act. It shows pretty clearly that the 76 percent of stimulus spending through the first four months went to fill in the gaping holes in Medicaid and state budgets. In other words, the stimulus isn’t acting like a motor engine creating new jobs. It’s been acting like a crutch to keep state budgets and payrolls from imploding.
In the meantime, the nonsensical mag-lev train linking LA and Vegas has been approved for funding using stimulus dollars. Never mind the technology has never been used in hilly terrain and let’s ignore the problems in getting existing implementations to work; even if it did, does the taxpayer understand how much risk they’re subsidizing with their tax dollars?

Where are your stimulus funds going?
